Ability to read, interpret, and explain materials from professional journals and books, including legal documents General Description: The Dean of Students works with the Principals in carrying out the School’s academic and behavior programs.
As a professional educator, the Dean of Students understands and responds to the challenges presented by today’s diverse student population.
The Dean of Students provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support student’s academic achievement, personal, and social development.
The Dean of Students works cooperatively with the principals, counselors, nurses, staff, students, and parents towards a positive school climate.
Essential Functions: It is critical for the employee occupying this position to demonstrate the following skills and characteristics when performing the essential functions of the job: 1.
Demonstrates professionalism in all forms of communication and interactions.
2.
Provides positive and enthusiastic leadership.
3.
Coordinate implementation of the intervention assistance team in the building.
4.
Effectively engages staff, students and parents to create positive student outcomes.
5.
Competently organizes and prioritizes assigned duties and tasks.
6.
Communicates information quickly and accurately, and delivers effective responses.
7.
Intervenes to resolve conflicts and manage discipline.
8.
Shares responsibilities of organizing and supervising all major events and programs with the building principals.
9.
Attends and participates in various leadership team meetings and other building/district level meetings as assigned.
10.
Oversees building application of the Positive Behavior and Supports (PBIS) model and school climate initiatives.
Other Duties and Responsibilities: 1.
Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
2.
Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
3.
Conduct other duties related to the Dean of Students duties as assigned by the Principals, Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent so long as those duties do not include evaluation or supervision of bargaining unit members.
Additional Working Conditions: 1.
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.

Occasional interaction among unruly children.
