Job Description: Summary: The Campus Groundskeeper maintains the grounds of the campus.
Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities: Cuts and waters the turf as well as plant material.
Applies pesticides to turf and plant material, including fertilizer.
Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged limbs, branches, or twigs.
Assists in landscape installation and maintenance.
Cleans grounds and removes litter, including outdoor trash/recycling containers.
Assists with campus signage.
Assists in annual leaf removal.
Operates mowers, tractors, trucks, and other landscape equipment.
Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, buildings (steps, landings & ramps) and parking lots / driveways / roadways.
Includes removing snow from synthetic turf.
Spreads salt and ice melt on all sidewalks, buildings (steps, landings & ramps) and parking lots / driveways / roadways Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
Assists in planning and design of annual flower plantings and landscaped areas on campus.
Performs housekeeping tasks as needed to provide a cleaner, less hazardous work environment.
Assists with equipment maintenance, such as grinding mower blades, bed knives, preventative maintenance of equipment, and other equipment repairs; provides general shop upkeep.
Cleans out drainage ditches, window wells, and culverts.
Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, mower blades, and shears.
Prepares campus grounds for special events such as graduation, alumni weekend, parent's weekend, receptions including setup and teardown on event day.
Assists in repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
Assists with maintaining the golf course and athletic fields.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience: Associate degree (A.
A.
) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively to staff, students, coaches, and employees of supply companies or contractors.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Knowledge: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate and percent.
Must have mechanical aptitude and skills, and ability to operate the equipment used in the job.
Good verbal communication skills are required.
Basic computer skills Abilities: Must have valid Ohio driver's license.
Must have, or ability to obtain, Ohio Pesticide Applicators license.
Additional Information: Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the staff member regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to vibration.
The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
The individual is also exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Position may require overtime work and response to call-in during unscheduled hours.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee frequently is required to sit and talk or hear.
The individual is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
