Summary: Maintenance Manager directs and coordinates activities concerned with design, construction, and maintenance of equipment and maintenance of facilities.
Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the maintenance department, including professional support staff.
Responsible for development and implementation of preventative maintenance program.
Key Responsibilities: Safety: Supports and models safe behaviors.
Uses available resources to ensure that all at-risk behaviors and other safety hazards are corrected in a timely and effective manner.
Considers safety in all engineering/maintenance decisions and networks with supervision, management and others to ensure high-quality safety decisions.
Managing: Organizes and plans work in advance, then follows up to ensure desired results.
Keeps department informed.
Conducts annual performance appraisals.
Assesses and organizes employee training and development.
Directly manages all Maintenance Personnel.
Spends majority of time working on equipment.
Team Development: Maintains a highly motivated workforce through strong, positive leadership as measured by safety performance, employee satisfaction surveys, employee turnover and absenteeism.
Conducts on-going improvement efforts through team planning and problem-solving meetings.
Budgeting and Cost Control: Effectively maintains equipment to continuously improve productivity, waste and quality.
Ability to purchase own supplies and handle inventory.
Proposes budgets and cost forecasts, and controls costs in the following line item budget areas: (1) Repair & Maintenance Labor, (2) Maintenance Supplies, (3) Extraordinary Supplies, (4) Shutdown Expense, and (5) Capital Projects.
** Duties may vary depending on location Position Requirements: Demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic and engineering processes.
Keeps abreast of trends, developments, and new technology.
Ensures that all work meets or exceeds all applicable codes and/or specifications.
Actively supervises maintenance associates in the daily coordination and planning of maintenance PM and repair activities, along with required checks.
Reports to plant leadership any information of the mechanical/electrical nature that could cause plant operation to be impacted, while providing technical support for plant equipment and facilities.
Maintains a cost effective and efficient PM program, utilize both planned and unplanned machine downtime to facilitate PM activities and repairs, while actively engaged in cost reduction activities.
Handles contracted vendor PM work and repair activities and verifies completed work is up to the correct standard Ensures inventories of spare parts, maintenance materials and supplies are maintained to correct levels.
Takes proactive measures to address safety issues across the facility Plans, schedules, and monitors preventative maintenance work orders and repair work orders to ensure proper documentation of needed and completed work.
Maintains a healthy relationship with the production team, and production leadership, and solicits feedback from the hourly team on PM/repair plans.
Ensures the maintenance department follows all required housekeeping practices Ensures completion of all regulatory audits/checks and PMs including but not limited to boiler checks, boiler PMs, and environmental audits Builds an effective maintenance team, and constantly works to develop team members.
Active engagement in succession planning for continual growth.
Physical Demands: Work time is split between the office and the manufacturing plant.
In the plant environment, the person is exposed to heat, cold, noise, dust, production equipment, and weather conditions.
Some travel is required.
Medium work.
Frequent walking throughout the plant on various surfaces and up/down stairs; occasional climbing up/down ladders and possibly on/off forklifts or other mobile equipment.
Frequent use of hands for computer use, writing, and measuring.
Occasional pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, carrying, and bending to operate machines, move material, and train employees/supervisors.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Familiarity with the entire manufacturing process for corrugated boxes, which includes strong working knowledge of key corrugated machinery.
Understanding of basic accounting.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks.
Available for travel as needed.
Ability to communicate effectively with employees and business associates at all levels, individually or before groups of any size.
Ability to delegate effectively.
